Friedman on Colbert

Renowned doofus Thomas Friedman on the Colbert Report. At least he finally admits that we may be out of Friedman Units.

Thomas Friedman's previous stance on Iraq (trigger warning: Charlie Rose, hellaciously mixed metaphors):

His infamous "Suck on this" rant begins around the 2:30 mark.

My Disgusting Head

I had a several week period (now, thankfully, over) during which I had pretty severe vertigo. I went to a couple different doctors, both of whom determined that the problem wasn't in my inner ear. Despite that, I had a balance test (which was very strange, consisting of pumping water in my ears and having me track lights around without moving my head). Also, I had an MRI. The hospital sold me the images for $15, and here are some of the better ones.

Go ahead and bring the jokes about how small my brain seems.

Have we already been forgot?

I just got back from seven months in asia. I had a blast in Hawaii, Guam, mainland Japan, Thailand, South Korea, Singapore, and Okinawa. So I sorted through my mail and sat down to read my exciting Spring '07 issue of Harvard-Westlake life. There's an article about a guy who just graduated from the Academy, and it mentions such other notable HW Academy grads as Brian Sofen and Kimberly Jung. No mention of Robert Eckhart and I. I also got a kick about him flying a flight in a hornet. I have over 400 hours in one! I hope the HW hasn't forgot (I just saw V for Vendetta) us already. I also hope I'll be able to make the 10 year. I may be somewhere else.

So other than Transformers, what movies from the last 7 months should I see?

Elephant Seal

Via Majikthise:

Ever feel like that? You've been poked, you know it's unacceptable. But you can't run after your tormentor because you don't have legs. You're just a pinniped at the mercy of bipeds. The outrage is already over by the time you even realize what happened. It can't be undone. It can't be avenged. But it's still UNACCEPTABLE. Roaring and flailing is absurd, but it's your only option. Inaction would be obscene.

There Will Be Blood

Trailer for P.T. Anderson's new movie:

Huh. At least it's good to see Daniel Day-Lewis again.

Goodreads

Every few months I run out of books and I end up buying stuff based on reviews I find online. This rarely works well. The time in my life when I was consistently reading the best books was when I was in Florida and relying entirely on your recommendations. If only there were some easy website through which I could see what you had recently read and would recommend. Into the gap steps Goodreads. I have added some of my recently read books and others that I would recommend. If you create an account, join the FPS group so we can all see what you are reading.
