Nevaeh

According to Clive Thompson, "Nevaeh" is now the most popular new name for Christian girls and amongst the 100 most popular girls names overall. In addition to being incredbily stupid sounding (it is "commonly pronounced nah-VAY-uh", according to the New York Times), Nevaeh, also has an astoundingly idiotic origin story. Here's Thomspon on the subject:

In 2000, Sonny Sandoval, the singer for the Christian-rock unit P.O.D., appeared on MTV and introduced his baby daughter Nevaeh. He explained the provenance -- "Heaven spelled backwards" -- and apparently the country was totally smitten.

Man, oh man.

Lordi

You all heard that Lordi, being a band that dresses up as monsters, won the Eurovision song contest? Anyone want to start a monster rock band with me? I'm totally serious.

Be The Mario You Want to See In the World

Apparently, some nutter's opened his own Physically Augmented Reality Nintendo Amusement Park in which:

a player jumps through using a power assist harness. There is nothing digital. There is nothing projected. There is nothing virtual. Both the power harness and the moving parts of the obstacle course are entirely mechanical, to give a player the true feeling of being inside a video game. Nintendo Amusement Park is actively seeking collaborators, sponsors, and investors for the next phases of the project.

Maybe we should go before Nintendo sues the living bejesus out of them. . .
