Lounge Lizard

I swear on my life this is 100% real. I was walking down the street looking for stuff to photograph and this guy is just sitting outside a coffee shop with this 80 year old woman and he is taking these little sofa things out of a bag. Then he opens another compartment in the bag and there are about five lizards like this guy. Then he would pose them and they would just sit there like this. Don't really know why.

Leading London Chocolatier caught 'truffle-squishing' rival, forced to resign

Barry Colenso, the master chocolatier at Thorntons, was watched by baffled staff as he roamed the Hotel Chocolat store in Nottingham, handling various truffles.

When they inspected his handiwork after he left, it was discovered that he had mutilated £63.50's worth of chocolates.

CCTV images later confirmed that the perpetrator was Mr Colenso.

A statement from Hotel Chocolat said: "This was an extraordinary act of truffle-squishing. We can only guess at what provoked it.

Van Halen Pitch Troubles

So what happens when you’re Van Halen, the last song in your set list is the million-seller “Jump” with its synthesizer-keyboard opening…and the recording you’re using to play back the synth is accidentally run at 48K instead of 44.1K?

My Disgusting Head, Part II, Plus News

I heard back from my doctor and I am pretty much okay. When my doctor first called me with the test results he left pretty much this exact message: "Hi, Reid, this is Dr. ---- of the UCLA Head and Neck Center. I got the results of your MRI and your balance test. The MRI looks normal, and the balance test indicates that you have lost 60% of the balance function in your left ear. If you have any questions please give me a call."

Why, yes, doctor. As long as you are asking, I do have some questions.

When I finally talked to him he said that he didn't know what caused the vertigo, but that it was probably either a virus in my inner ear or decreased blood flow. He also said that while the 60% loss could be permanent, it didn't matter because my brain could just readjust to the new signals it was getting from my ears. Even though he couldn't say that this would never happen again, he did say that I don't really have anything to worry about.

In other news, I got a job yesterday. I am going to be clerking for a federal Magistrate Judge in downtown L.A. after I graduate. It is a two year position, which is a bummer in terms of timing when I actually get to live with Megan, but other than that I am really excited about it. It is pretty weird to have most of my life mapped out until I am 30.

Some Stuff

Things are busy, busy, busy over here these days, but here's some stuff I've been meaning to post for a while

Here's a little website that recommends presidential candidates based on your answers to 11 questions. Simplistic, obviously, but fun and somewhat helpful.

Joanna Newsom at Disney

For you LA types, Cary recetly pointed out to me that Joanna Newsom is playing at the Disney Concert Hall on November 9th -- the day I happen to arrive in LA for vacation/thanksgiving. I just bought some tickets for myself and my family, but any of you who will be down around then and want to join should do likewise here:

Joanna Newsom at Disney Concert Hall

If you do get tix, let me know and we can coordinate the evening...

Also: I'll be in LA from the Monday before Thanksgiving through the Sunday afterwards (between the 9th and that monday, I'll be in Hawaii with my dad celebrating his partial retirement). If you'll be around then at all, drop me a line. I'm actually going to have my car this time so It'll be much easier for me to get out.
