Hell House

My friend, Alex Timbers, with his usual coterie of other mutual friends in Les Freres Corbusier, is staging another spectacle in New York. Once again, it has been favorably, and visibly reviewed by the New York Times. Congratulations to him! Seems like Alice's CSI character could appear in Hell House.

I don't get it. But then again I was unable to read the New York Times article straight through from beginning to end. Jesus I hate the New York Times. Now I'm a pretty liberal dude -- I'm down with gay weddings and atheism and all that jazz -- but maybe the New York Times writers ought to quit chugging brie for one goddamn second and read what they write:

"Because the interest of 'Hell House' is more anthropological than theatrical — pitched as it is to people to whom it will probably seem as exotic as Margaret Mead’s Samoa — there isn’t a lot for a theater critic to comment on."

Dude sure wrote a lot of words in spite of there not being much to comment on!

Fortunately, though, I shouldn't have to put up with kind of tripe, right? I should just be able to go straight to the horse's mouth and look at its teeth that way, right? I mean, that's the whole fucking point of the Internet, right? Anybody can talk to anybody else, anywhere, because the Internet is a madd-standards-compliant cross-platformational computronic W3C-ized legitimate infotronic corridor, right?

Maybe if I need to download Flash 8 or above to read your site, you could point me to the Flash 8 download for Linux, eh? Eh? Eh? THERE IS NO FLASH 8 FOR LINUX!

Jesus. Tittyfucking. Christ. There's not even a "view ghetto version of site as HTML." Take your proprietary data formats, shove them up your ass, and keep feeding the whale, jackhole. In the meantime, I will be living in Richard Stallman's beard, ingesting LSD and committing my life to quiet servitude of his primary beard chigger.

Fucking Flash.

Never mind. I revoke my previous criticism. I was able to get the site to partially load using Flash 7 on my Linux box. I saw three glossy-looking buttons before the page crapped out on me. Merely observing this hallmark of Web 2.0 design philosophy ("make everything glossy") is all I need to conclude that they are legit.

Jesus Christ, the goddamn motherfucking New York Times. You want another example of why I hate them? Here, from an article on AllofMP3 and music piracy:

"Some players, like Pirate Bay in Sweden, continue to operate illegally"

NEW YORK TIMES: FIRE YOUR GODDAMN FACT-CHECKER. The Pirate Bay is LEGAL under Swedish law, because they're not actually distributing copyrighted content -- just torrent files, which contain nothing that's under copyright. People who use the site are illegally swapping copyrighted content with one another using bit torrent software, but the site itself is operating legally under Swedish law.

The eggheads at that paper can cram it with walnuts. Anybody needs me I am going to be out stealing lingonberries.
