Fiona, Freed
So, it turns out that the rumors about Fiona Apple's new album having been refused by the label were not quite true. According to Fiona in this WNYC interview and live performance session, though Sony thought there were no hits on the record, she also didn't want the record released because she was re-recording songs because she wasn't happy with it. It does sound like there was a strange and horrible process with Sony, but it was overblown. Also, she's crazy. The record is coming out October 4th.
